Keeping Your Hearing Aids Dry

Moisture is one of the leading causes of hearing aid breakdowns. The source may be moisture or humidity in the air, moisture in the ear, or a combination of both. Symptoms of moisture-related problems include distortion, weakness, intermittency, or complete failure. Aids subject to moisture may have corroded components. If the symptoms are reoccurring and other obvious possibilities have been eliminated, moisture is likely to blame.

DRI-AID

The Dri-Aid canister is a minimal drying system that is adequate for many of our customers. The canister holds a desiccant that can be recharged in the home oven. The canister is also a handy storage container. For some people, this canister is either not strong enough or convenient enough to ensure moisture-free aids. For these wearers, there are two other types of dryers that are excellent. Cost $8.00 (mini), $18.00 (super).

DRY and STORE

This product circulates heated air, which removes moisture from the hearing aid components. A special germicidal lamp also sanitizes the hearing aid. This dryer is preferred for BTE wearers rather than the Moisture Guard because of the negative effect of sustained heat on the ear molds. Cost: $165.00.

MOISTURE GUARD

This product uses heat to dry out moisture inside the hearing aids. It also provides a safe and attractive storage place for your hearing aids. Cost: $85.00.
